The dark clouds reappeared again this morning and they looked like they meant business. We left at 7 am and shortly after the rain began. Like a warm shower that lasted about 2 hours – accompanied by a little wind but nothing too serious.
It knocked my odometer out for a while (guess a little plastic might have been a good idea..). That made the navigating a little tricky but overall not too bad.
We were mostly on back roads and not too heavily travelled — that makes things easier. At one point I looked up and had flashbacks of the dog chasing’s of a couple of weeks ago.
I saw a mountain of fur sitting on a porch, heard barking, thought - uh oh - and then looked…when I realized they were four giant St. Bernard’s I knew I had nothing to worry about. They did all come running and barking but they were really cute. I wanted to kidnap one but the logistics would not have worked.
By around 1 pm the storms returned with a vengeance. Thunder, lightening, wind and rain. All of it. We waited out the storm in the little town of Houston. There was one cafe open and like the guy who worked there said – you all just doubled the population of this town for a couple of hours.
I promise I’m not lying - but the name of the place was ”A Little Looney Cafe”. That says it all.
It added a little extra time and excitement onto the day but we rolled into another state by late afternoon. Across the mighty Mississippi and into Wisconsin.
We’ll see what tomorrow’s weather brings…
There is no such thing as inappropriate weather, just inappropriate dress.
